Community Centres

Mercy Outreach chooses to work with people and communities that are often overlooked by society. Our deepest desire is to bring hope to what seem to be the most hopeless situations. This is why our model is to open community centres in areas of acute need. Community centres are strategically placed throughout the slums, and they provide holistic services for people of all ages and social backgrounds in each community.

Education

Myanmar’s education system is in great need of development, and many of the children who come to Mercy Outreach’s community centres are lacking educational support. During school hours, community centres host creative education programs for children who are either not yet school-aged or they are unable to attend school. Our trained staff teach the children to think creatively and gain skills in decision making—all while receiving a basic education. Community centres also provide Afterschool Tuition to help children who go to school with their homework and exam preparation.

Skills Training

Community centres address the challenge of unemployment by providing skills training. Our two main programs provide training in sewing and computer skills. These training programs are avenues to encourage entrepreneurship and give participants a competitive edge as they apply for jobs. Helping men and women develop tangible skills that empower them to obtain meaningful work is having a long-term impact on our communities.

Women's Empowerment

Women’s Transformation Groups empower local women to improve their own lives and the lives of people in their community. Through Transformation Groups, each community centre provides a safe place for women to learn practical life skills, receive anti-violence training, develop financial skills and pursue entrepreneurship.

Food and Water

“For when you saw me hungry, you fed me. When you found me thirsty, you gave me something to drink…” Matthew 25:35

In the communities where each centre is located, hunger and thirst are at the forefront of people’s minds. Every day, our food and clean water programs provide nutritious food and clean water to people in the community.

Sunday Gatherings

At the heart of everything we do is a desire for people to experience the powerful and transformative love of Jesus. As a part of our holistic approach, each centre is committed to creating a space for their community to encounter God and address their spiritual needs through our small groups and Sunday meetings.

Children's Programs

Each community centre is committed to providing a safe space in the neighborhood for children to gather and play.
